UK – Molson Coors Beverage Company has announced plans to invest more than £100 million (US$125 million) in its UK brewery network over the next five years.
This significant investment will support infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving capabilities and introducing greater efficiencies across the company’s production network in the UK.
The investment will specifically target brewing capacity and packaging capability enhancements at Molson Coors’ Burton-on-Trent and Tadcaster breweries.
At the Burton facility, a new 24-tonne high-speed 120,000 cans per hour filler will be installed, while upgrades to the packaging keg line are planned for the Tadcaster Brewery and Aspall Cyder House.
Additionally, investment will be injected into Sharp’s Brewery in Rock, Cornwall, to support both new and existing cask ale brands.
Fraser Thompson, Chief Supply Chain Officer for Western Europe at Molson Coors Beverage Company, emphasized the significance of this investment, stating, “This plan is an investment in our future, giving our people and our brands the tools to fulfill our potential in the UK market while making strong progress against our sustainability targets.”
The investment aligns with Molson Coors’ commitment to reach carbon net zero in its direct emissions (scope 1 and 2) in the UK by 2035.
The company has already made significant strides in sustainability, having switched to 100% renewable electricity in 2021 and reduced carbon emissions across its direct operations by 50 percent ahead of schedule.
“This is a landmark moment in our history as we evolve to meet the demands of our growing portfolio and bring new innovations in the years ahead, while continuing to reduce the impact our business has on the environment,” Thompson added.
The planned investment follows previous financial commitments, including a £13 million (US$13.87M) investment in increasing capacity at the Aspall Cyder House in 2022, a £21 million (US$22.4M) investment in a new canning line at Burton in 2021, and an ongoing £10 million (US$10.67M) investment into the Tadcaster brewery since 2023.
