Mwani Qatar ports record 168% bulk cargo surge in August

QATAR – Mwani Qatar’s maritime hubs have recorded a 168% increase in bulk cargo shipments reaching approximately 120,000 tons,over July as the nation’s port infrastructure undergoes rapid expansion and heightened productivity.

In a post on the X platform on Tuesday, Mwani Qatar said its ports received about 133 vessels in the month, up 13% from July, reflecting a notable rise in shipping traffic across the country’s maritime gateways.

The ports also handled 49,040 standard containers and 30,011 tonnes of general cargo during the period.

Meanwhile, the livestock sector experienced exponential growth, nearly tripling its numbers since July, while bulk cargo shipments surged by more than 160% compared with the previous month.

These statistics collectively illustrate rapid expansion and heightened productivity across the nation’s port infrastructure.

Cargo Growth Across All Categories

Mwani Qatar received approximately 120,000 tonnes of bulk cargo in August, a 168% increase on July. This marks the most impressive growth across all cargo categories, signalling increased industrial and construction activity that requires raw materials such as aggregates, cement, and other bulk commodities.

Shipping traffic saw a notable thirteen percent rise in vessel arrivals, alongside a substantial increase in the volume of standard containers and general cargo handled.

The ports handled 49,040 standard containers and 30,011 tons of general cargo, demonstrating balanced growth across cargo types.

Livestock Sector Surge

The livestock sector has grown rapidly, nearly tripling since July to 5,989 head. This 191% increase reflects growing demand for livestock imports to meet domestic consumption needs and may signal increased trade activity with regional partners.

The ports also handled about 5,989 head of livestock, a 191% increase on July, highlighting the ports’ capacity to handle diverse cargo types and support Qatar’s food security objectives.
