New IMCD laboratory in Shanghai to drive innovation in nutrition, other life science sectors

CHINA – IMCD Group, a global leader in the distribution and formulation of speciality chemicals and ingredients, has officially opened its newly reorganized and expanded Life Science Laboratory hub in Shanghai.
The new Life Science Laboratory hub is designed to support the life sciences sector by bringing together state-of-the-art laboratories for food and nutrition, pharmaceuticals, and beauty and personal care, under one roof.
By integrating these three laboratories, IMCD aims to foster increased cross-industry collaboration, enabling more dynamic exchanges of expertise and accelerating the development of innovative solutions for customers and partners.
Nicky Huang, Managing Director for IMCD China, stated, “The new Life Science Laboratory hub demonstrates our long-term investment in building local capabilities, strengthening our ability to serve customers with scientific expertise and market knowledge.”
The hub is situated within the East China University of Science and Technology, benefiting from its close proximity to academic talent and research capabilities.
“By integrating advanced technical facilities with a customer-focused approach, we are creating meaningful opportunities for growth and innovation,” Nicky Huang added.
In addition, this location allows IMCD to work hand-in-hand with the university on talent development and innovation projects, strengthening the pipeline of skilled professionals and fostering a culture of scientific discovery.
Highlights of the new Life Science Laboratory hub
The Food & Nutrition laboratory focuses on applications in dairy, bakery and savoury foods.
This centre offers customised product development, including the creation of ready-to-eat samples and ready-to-use formulation kits.
It supports customer engagement through technical training, collaborative product development with research and development teams, and industry-focused events. The centre also provides on-site technical support to ensure optimal performance in customers’ production environments throughout China.
IMCD’s pharmaceuticals laboratory offers high-level formulation and analytical expertise across multiple dosage forms, including reverse-engineering and rheological testing.
Equipped with cutting-edge tools for skin diagnostics and SPF analysis, the beauty and personal care laboratory enables advanced product testing.
The centre also includes a Beauty Studio, a dedicated space where IMCD experts collaborate with beauty brands, using cutting-edge, trend-driven and ready-to-use chassis, active ingredients, functional agents, and sensory modifiers, to develop innovative, tailor-made, and market-ready formulation prototypes, as well as a hair salon to support testing and demonstration of hair care solutions under real-use conditions.
