Oman’s natural shrimp aquaculture targets 3,200 metric tons of shrimp production in 2026

OMAN – Natural Shrimp Aquaculture (NSA), a shrimp farming company based in the Wilayat of Jaalan Bani Bu Hassan in Oman’s South A’Sharqiyah Governorate, expects to produce 3,200 metric tons of white shrimp in 2026 as it works to expand aquaculture production and contribute to the country’s food security objectives.

According to the company, production had reached approximately 1,000 metric tons by the end of the week of June 26 to 27, with output remaining on track to meet its annual production schedule.

Farm Manager Eng. Badr bin Nasser Al Rasbi said the company follows internationally recognised aquaculture production standards, which led to it receiving the Best Agricultural Practices certification in 2024.

Al Rasbi also said the company has obtained ISO 22000 certification for food safety, adding that its food risk management system is intended to maintain product quality and support access to international markets.

Expansion plans

Looking ahead, NSA plans to increase production by about 175% above its current output over the next few years as part of a strategy to expand exports to European, South Korean and Chinese markets while continuing to supply customers in Oman.

The company is also developing value-added shrimp products to broaden its product range and serve both domestic and regional markets.

South A’Sharqiyah has become an important location for aquaculture investment in Oman, supported by favourable conditions for fish farming and growing interest in expanding seafood production.

Authorities view aquaculture as one of the sectors capable of creating new business opportunities, supporting fisheries-linked industries, and increasing the diversity of the country’s food supply as part of wider economic development efforts.
