Plukon Food Group acquires Spain’s Avimosa

SPAIN – Plukon Food Group has agreed to acquire Spanish poultry producer Avícola Moraleja, which trades under the name Avimosa, as part of its continued expansion across the Iberian market.

The transaction comes a year after the Netherlands-based company completed the purchase of Grupo Avícola Hidalgo, which supplies poultry products to retail, business-to-business and foodservice customers in Spain.

Plukon Food did not disclose financial details for either the Avimosa deal or the earlier acquisition, remaining silent on valuation and transaction structure.

Avimosa operates across multiple stages of production, covering feed manufacturing, hatcheries, farming activities and processing operations within a single integrated system.

The company produces fresh and prepared poultry products for retail and foodservice clients and also supplies eggs to commercial customers in domestic and regional markets.

The business runs four facilities located in Madrid and Toledo and employs more than 250 staff across its production and processing operations.

Its main slaughterhouse and processing site is based in Moraleja de Enmedio in Madrid, while additional assets include a poultry farm in Añover de Tajo and an incubator in Villaseca de la Sagra.

The company also operates a feed production facility in the region, supporting its vertically integrated structure across breeding and processing activities.

Plukon Food chief executive Kees Kraijenoord said the company views Avimosa’s emphasis on quality standards, animal welfare practices and regional expertise as aligned with its broader European expansion approach.

He added that the acquisition strengthens Plukon’s position in central Spain and expands its integrated supply chain, including local feed production and poultry processing capacity across the Iberian Peninsula.

Plukon Food operates 41 facilities across seven European countries and reported an annual turnover of US$4.4bn last year while employing around 12,000 people across its operations.

Its product range includes fresh poultry, ready-to-eat meals and salads, with diversification efforts extending into plant-based alternatives in recent years.

The company previously acquired Vega Insiders, a Netherlands-based producer of vegan and vegetarian foods that supplies products such as plant-based mince, bacon, and cheese-style bites.

Further expansion in Spain has included the acquisition of poultry producer Sambau in 2024, another deal involving Redondo, and the purchase of Polish company Algas SP in the same year.
