Silverlands Tanzania Limited appoints Johan du Toit as Operations Manager
Executive to oversee integrated poultry operations across farms, feed mill, hatchery and processing units
TANZANIA – Silverlands Tanzania Limited has appointed Johan du Toit as Operations Manager.
STL has assigned him oversight of the company’s poultry activities across breeder and broiler farms, hatchery operations, feed manufacturing, processing facilities and distribution systems.
He will report directly to the Managing Director and assume full accountability for operational performance.
The company stated that du Toit brings more than two decades of leadership experience within African agribusiness markets, having managed integrated poultry value chains, large feed production plants and multi-location processing operations with annual profit and loss responsibility reaching up to US$29 million and workforce supervision exceeding 1,000 employees.
According to the firm, his tenure at Silverlands has already involved adjustments in feed consistency standards, plant throughput management, maintenance planning systems, farm biosecurity protocols and internal operating procedures, alongside participation in projects aimed at expanding production capacity.
Silverlands Tanzania, established around 2013 to 2014, operates near Iringa at Makota Farm in Ihemi Village, where it runs breeder and broiler farms, a hatchery, a computerized feed mill and a poultry training centre as part of an integrated model that links input production to finished poultry products.
The company forms part of broader Silverlands agricultural investments backed by SilverStreet Capital, which focuses on agribusiness ventures across sub Saharan Africa, while its Tanzanian unit concentrates primarily on poultry genetics, feed manufacturing and farmer support services.
STL’s Integrated Poultry Production
Silverlands is identified as a leading domestic supplier of vaccinated day old chicks and distributes three commercial categories including SASSO dual purpose birds that reach between 2 and 2.6 kilograms in approximately 12 weeks and produce about 190 to 200 eggs annually compared with an estimated 50 eggs from typical indigenous chickens, as well as fast growing broilers for meat production and high yielding layer breeds for egg output.
In addition to chick production, the company manufactures poultry feeds tailored for different growth stages such as broiler rations designed for weight gain efficiency and layer formulas including Faida Layers Mash formulated to maintain steady laying cycles and egg quality, with all feed processed through a modern automated milling system.
Farmer Training and Market Support
Alongside commercial production, Silverlands runs a poultry training centre that provides instruction to farmers on flock management, feeding regimes, biosecurity standards and handling practices in an effort to improve farm level productivity and maintain supply chain consistency.
