Squeaky Bean launches first Ready-to-Eat Plant-Based Bacon in Major UK Supermarkets

UK – Squeaky Bean, a prominent name in plant-based meat alternatives, has unveiled its new Crispy Bacon Style Strips, marking what it claims to be the first ready-to-eat plant-based bacon product available in major UK retailers.

This innovation will be featured in leading supermarket chains, including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Waitrose, Asda, and Morrison’s.

The Crispy Bacon Style Strips are said to offer a “sweet and salty flavor with a crispy texture,” according to the Surrey-based company.

The product is designed to meet the demand for convenient, plant-based bacon options, which can be easily incorporated into sandwiches, pasta dishes, or salads.

This addition aims to cater to the growing number of vegans and vegetarians who miss the taste of bacon, with around 50% of them expressing this sentiment.

The launch of these strips follows other notable product introductions by Squeaky Bean, such as their Cooking Chorizo Style Sausage and Beechwood Smoked Salmon Style Slices.

The company, which is part of the Compleat Food Group, has a diverse range of ready-to-eat plant-based products, including beef, steak, and chicken alternatives, as well as slices like the NYC Pastrami, and a variety of snacks and meal kits.

Jen Herbert, Head of Marketing at Squeaky Bean, highlighted that bacon remains a top missed food item among vegans and vegetarians.

She noted that until now, there has not been a ready-to-eat plant-based bacon product that could rival its meat-based counterpart.

The launch of this product comes amid a significant rise in the number of vegans in the UK, which has increased from 1.4 million in 2023 to approximately 2.5 million in 2024, reflecting a broader trend towards plant-based diets.
