Company wins agriculture investment award and adds new infrastructure to support poultry growth

ZAMBIA – Zambeef Products PLC has been named the Best Agriculture Investor at the Invest in Zambia International Conference (IZIC), hosted by the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA).
The award follows a US$100 million (ZMW 2.64 billion) expansion initiative announced in 2022, which has included investments in livestock, retail networks, and meat processing infrastructure.
So far, the company has opened upgraded operations at Mpongwe and Chisamba farms, added to its distribution fleet, and grown its livestock divisions to meet domestic demand for protein products.
According to Zambeef, the investment drive has supported over 8,000 direct jobs and created an estimated 260,000 indirect opportunities through value chain linkages and supplier partnerships.
Additionally, the firm reports working with more than 100,000 small-scale farmers, tying their participation to formal supply channels and off-take agreements.
As a result of these initiatives, Zambeef claims its contribution accounts for more than 1% of Zambia’s gross domestic product (GDP).
New Poultry Infrastructure Commissioned
While its meat operations continue to expand, Zambeef is also increasing its footprint in poultry production through a new Environmentally Controlled House (ECH) facility at the Huntley farm in Chisamba.
The new unit, launched in June 2024, is part of a US$15 million (ZMW 396 million) investment dedicated to poultry, drawn from the company’s broader capital expenditure programme.
Each ECH unit is designed to house up to 45,000 birds per cycle and is built to reduce the negative environmental impacts associated with traditional poultry farming systems.
During the launch event, Zambeef CEO Faith Mukutu met with small- and medium-scale poultry outgrowers, highlighting how new infrastructure and training support are being used to improve production consistency.
She noted that the facility will link micro and small enterprises to steady markets and formal value chains while offering access to technical training.
The project aims to combine technology and sustainability practices to ensure long-term benefits for producers and surrounding communities.
Company executives say the poultry expansion aligns with Zambeef’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) commitments and is designed to contribute to wider global development objectives.
