PepsiCo India expands beverage production with new manufacturing facility in Ujjain

PepsiCo has inaugurated its second flavour manufacturing plant in India, reinforcing its long-term investment strategy and expanding beverage concentrate production capacity in Madhya Pradesh.

INDIA – PepsiCo India has inaugurated a Rs 1,266-crore (US$133.1M) manufacturing facility in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, marking one of the company’s largest investments in the country.

The new facility is expected to strengthen PepsiCo’s beverage production capabilities while supporting industrial development, employment generation and ancillary business growth across central India.

The 22-acre plant is PepsiCo’s second flavour manufacturing facility in India and will produce beverage concentrates for the company’s portfolio of soft drink brands.

The investment forms part of PepsiCo’s broader commitment to invest Rs 5,700 crore in India by 2030 to expand its manufacturing footprint and strengthen operations in the country.

PepsiCo said the Ujjain facility is its ninth flavour manufacturing plant globally and has been developed using the company’s advanced manufacturing, technology and sustainability capabilities.

Eugene Willemsen, Chief Executive Officer of International Beverages at PepsiCo, described India as a key market for the company.

“India continues to be a strategic growth market for PepsiCo globally, and the inauguration of this facility—the ninth globally and second in India—further reinforces our long-term commitment to the country,” Willemsen said.

He added, “The Ujjain plant brings together the best of PepsiCo’s global capabilities in manufacturing, technology, and sustainability, while strengthening our ability to serve consumers with the iconic PepsiCo beverages.”

PepsiCo India & South Asia Chief Executive Officer Jagrut Kotecha said the investment reflects the company’s continued partnership with the country.

“The inauguration of our flavour manufacturing facility in Ujjain is a testimony to our strengthening ‘Partnership of Progress’ with India,” Kotecha said.

Beyond manufacturing, PepsiCo continues to expand its agricultural footprint in Madhya Pradesh through its collaborative farming programme, which currently engages more than 2,000 farmers in the sustainable cultivation of chip-grade potatoes.

The facility follows several recent strategic developments by the company in India. Earlier this month, PepsiCo launched its premium energy drink brand, Adrenaline Rush, targeting the country’s rapidly growing energy beverage segment.

The company also announced plans to invest up to Rs 5,700 crore in India by 2030 to support the expansion of its foods business through new manufacturing facilities in Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Tamil Nadu.

Additionally, Varun Beverages Limited recently extended its exclusive bottling and trademark licence agreement with PepsiCo and its affiliates in India for another 10 years, securing the partnership until April 30, 2049.
