Caldic opens food innovation Hub in India

The Taloja facility combines food formulation, laboratory, pilot plant and blending capabilities to accelerate product development and support local and regional customers.

INDIA – Caldic, a global distributor and development partner for the life sciences and material sciences sectors, has opened a new Food Innovation Hub (iHub) in India to strengthen its Food & Nutrition capabilities and support innovation across the Asia-Pacific region.

Located in Taloja, Mumbai, the facility will operate as a Centre of Excellence for Food & Nutrition, combining food formulation and application expertise with laboratory, pilot plant and blending capabilities.

Caldic said the Food iHub will enable the company to work with customers and principal partners to develop, test and scale food solutions more quickly. The facility also brings together application laboratories, testing capabilities, sourcing, packing and regulatory expertise.

“Our Innovation Hub is a key driver of our Food & Nutrition strategy. It will accelerate innovation with our customers and principals to deliver better and more specialized solutions while bringing them to market faster across APAC and globally,” said Knud Mohr, Chief Executive Officer, Caldic APAC.

“It is specifically equipped to address evolving market demands in areas such as nutritional fortification, enhancing texture, and improving taste, making it a launchpad for growth across key Food & Nutrition segments,” Mohr added.

The company said the integrated setup is designed to provide customers with an end-to-end development and supply solution tailored to local requirements, while improving supply-chain agility and supporting faster commercialisation.

Steve Crockett, Commercial Director, Caldic APAC, said the facility combines technology and operational capabilities to support both customers and principal partners.

“This state-of-the-art facility reflects our commitment to operational excellence and advanced technology. Combining application laboratories, pilot plants, and blending facilities will allow us to adapt and scale Caldic solutions across the globe and tailor these to suit our local customers while opening new sales channels for our principal partners,” Crockett said.

Sustainability was incorporated into the facility’s design, with provisions for solar energy. Its Taloja location also provides access to multimodal transport infrastructure, including rail, port and air connectivity.

The site’s location within a major industrial zone is intended to support collaboration with food industry players and strengthen the hub’s role within Caldic’s wider APAC innovation network.

“India is one of Caldic’s most important growth markets, with rapidly evolving consumer preferences and increasing demand for differentiated, locally relevant food solutions,” said Smita Shetty, Managing Director, Caldic India.

“At the same time, India is playing an increasingly important role in the global food industry. iHub Food strengthens India’s position as an innovation and production hub for Caldic, enabling us to support customers across APAC and other regions,” Shetty added.

Caldic said the new Food iHub expands its ability to develop locally relevant food solutions while leveraging India’s role in global food innovation and production.
