AGL joins Cameroon government for Edéa-Kribi railway corridor project
The corridor is expected to support key mining projects and facilitate trade and cargo movement through one of Central Africa’s growing logistics gateways.
CAMEROON – Africa Global Logistics has joined the Government of Cameroon to develop the Edéa–Kribi–Lolabé–Campo railway corridor, connecting production centres, industrial zones, and export gateways to the deep-water Port of Kribi.
The agreement was signed by the Government of Cameroon, Africa Global Logistics, and CAMALCO, marking an important step towards improving transport infrastructure and supporting economic development in Cameroon and the wider Central African region.
Strategic Role of Kribi Port and Industrial Zone
Located on the Gulf of Guinea, the Kribi Port Industrial Zone (KPIZ) covers 3,963 hectares adjacent to the deep-water Port of Kribi and serves as a strategic gateway to Central African hinterland markets. The zone is positioning itself as a major hub for the transit, processing, and redistribution of goods across the region.
The railway corridor will improve the movement of mining commodities and industrial cargo between inland production areas and export markets while enhancing the attractiveness of the Kribi industrial and logistics ecosystem for investors and manufacturers.
Moreover, the port’s deep-water capacity already accommodates large vessels; rail connectivity will further reduce transit times for time-sensitive shipments.
Mining Commodities and Regional Connectivity
The planned railway will link production areas to the Port of Kribi and the integrated industrial-port zone managed by KPIZ. The corridor is expected to support key mining projects and facilitate trade and cargo movement through one of Central Africa’s growing logistics gateways.
KPIZ stated that the railway will strengthen connectivity among production centres, the Port of Kribi, and the industrial-port zone, thereby supporting logistics activities and industrial development and improving access to international markets.
Additionally, the railway project comes as Africa Global Logistics continues to expand its footprint across the continent’s transport and logistics sector.
Economic Bridge for Landlocked Neighbours
The corridor functions as a vital economic bridge for landlocked neighbouring countries, including Chad, the Central African Republic, and northern Congo, enhancing their access to global markets through the Port of Kribi.
As Africa Global Logistics expands its footprint through initiatives such as SCA Africa, the Kribi corridor demonstrates how integrated rail-port infrastructure can attract foreign investment, support the development of the mining sector, and modernize supply chains across Central Africa.
This collaboration reflects a broader commitment to stimulating sustainable industrial growth throughout the region.
