Al Sharqi opens US$19.1M logistics hub at Dubai Industrial City

The facility has 38 inbound and outbound loading lanes, can handle up to 178 trucks per day, and is expected to create 500 jobs.

UAE – Al Sharqi Shipping has inaugurated an integrated logistics and distribution hub at Dubai Industrial City, part of TECOM Group, with an investment of AED 70 million (US$19.06 million), according to a company statement.

The facility will serve customers across the food and beverage, FMCG, retail, hotels, restaurants and cafés, quick-commerce, and manufacturing sectors, meeting domestic demand and strengthening regional distribution capabilities.

Capacity and temperature-controlled storage

The hub has 280,000 square feet of built-up storage, 200,000 square feet of open yard space, 30,000 square feet of office space, and a 40,000-square-foot basement.

It offers 22,000 palletised tonnes of multi-temperature-controlled storage, ranging from ambient to minus 18 °C.

The facility has 38 inbound and outbound loading lanes, can handle up to 178 trucks per day, and is expected to create 500 jobs.

Asif Rafiq, Chief Operating Officer of Al Sharqi Shipping, said: “The opening of our new facility at Dubai Industrial City will support the next phase of our growth, particularly in multi-temperature-controlled logistics, regional distribution, and integrated supply-chain solutions. We view the facility as a long-term strategic platform allowing us to serve customers across the UAE and wider region as we scale our capabilities, bringing our combined capacity to 37,800 pallet positions.”

Strategic location and policy alignment

Dubai Industrial City sits near Jebel Ali Port, Al Maktoum International Airport, and an Etihad Rail freight terminal, giving the hub access to sea, air, and rail connectivity.

Saud Abu Alshawareb, Executive Vice President for Industrial at TECOM Group, said: “A robust logistics sector is vital to driving trade, supporting local manufacturing, and strengthening regional supply chains. Our industrial-focused business district, state-of-the-art infrastructure, and its strategic connectivity to major transport corridors and markets provide a ready environment for businesses like Al Sharqi Shipping to expand their distribution channels and customer base.”

In addition, the investment aligns with Operation 300bn, the National Food Security Strategy 2051 and the Dubai Economic Agenda D33.

Furthermore, the food security strategy targets UAE self-sufficiency in key food categories, which requires cold-chain capacity for domestic production, imports and distribution.

Finally, the combined capacity of 37,800 pallet positions gives Al Sharqi the scale to serve national accounts across categories, though the commercial test is whether utilisation justifies the investment as competing cold-chain capacity expands in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
