Product positioned around protein content and label transparency

US – Beyond Meat has introduced a Spicy Buffalo version of its Beyond Chicken Pieces line, with distribution beginning in more than 2,000 Kroger outlets across the United States.
The new product follows the earlier launch of the Original variant, which entered retail shelves last year and is currently available through major chains such as Walmart, Publix, Sprouts Farmers Market, HEB, Wegmans, Meijer, Hy-Vee, Harris Teeter, Big Y, Price Chopper, and Tops Friendly Markets, while the Spicy Buffalo option is currently limited to Kroger stores.
The company states that each serving of the Spicy Buffalo pieces provides 21 grams of plant-based protein and contains 130 calories, with avocado oil used as the primary fat component in the formulation.
Both the Original and Spicy Buffalo products meet standards set by the Non-GMO Project and the Clean Label Project, which assess ingredients and screen for contaminants, with Beyond Meat indicating these are the first plant-based chicken items to receive the latter certification.
The launch comes as Beyond Meat continues to adjust its product range following increased scrutiny over the level of processing in plant-based foods.
Recent updates include changes to Beyond Breakfast Sausages, now made with avocado oil, alongside revisions to other products such as Beyond Beef, Beyond Burgers, chicken-style tenders, steak tips, and crumbles, all of which have also received Clean Label Project certification.
The company reports that more than 20 items in its retail portfolio now meet these certification criteria as it shifts toward formulations that align with its current product development approach.
Chief executive Ethan Brown said the new Spicy Buffalo product reflects the company’s ongoing focus on expanding its chicken category while maintaining its existing standards for ingredient sourcing and product composition.
