CMA CGM, ASYAD Group sign framework agreement to develop multipurpose logistics terminal in Sohar
Sohar Port, established in 2002, has become a major Omani industrial hub, with current investments exceeding US$12 billion, making it one of the world’s largest port development projects.
OMAN – CMA CGM Group and ASYAD Group have signed a framework agreement to jointly develop, manage and operate a multipurpose logistics terminal in Sohar, with the aim of strengthening maritime connectivity and regional trade corridors throughout the country.
The agreement was signed by Rodolphe Saadé, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of CMA CGM Group, during His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik’s official visit to France.
The long-term strategic partnership aims to enhance Oman’s ports as key global trade hubs by improving operational efficiency and delivering better services to customers across the region.
The collaboration brings together the capabilities and expertise of both groups to provide integrated logistics services and supply chain solutions.
Strategic Location and Regional Connectivity
Sohar Port, established in 2002, has become a major Omani industrial hub, with current investments exceeding US$12 billion, making it one of the world’s largest port development projects.
The port’s strategic importance is enhanced by its proximity to the Strait of Hormuz and by its role as a gateway for trade flows between the Gulf region, Asia, and Europe.
Partnership Capabilities and Service Offerings
The collaboration brings together CMA CGM Group’s global shipping and logistics network, which serves more than 420 ports across five continents and operates a fleet of over 650 vessels, and ASYAD Group’s integrated logistics ecosystem spanning 24 countries and present in 76 cities.
ASYAD Group has demonstrated significant growth, reporting a 55% increase in net profit in 2024 and revenues of OMR493 million (US$1.28 billion).
In addition, ASYAD’s freight forwarding volumes recorded triple-digit growth, reflecting the scale and agility of its integrated network.
The Group operates more than 90 multi-purpose vessels, serving more than 200 ports across continents.
Strategic Implications and Regional Integration
The Sohar terminal development is part of broader efforts to enhance Oman’s position as a global logistics hub.
Preparatory works for the joint Oman-UAE railway project were launched to enhance regional connectivity and build a next-generation transport ecosystem.
SOHAR Port has already demonstrated strong operational performance, with general cargo throughput up 77% in 2024 and container volumes up 15%.
Finally, as Oman continues to invest in port infrastructure and regional connectivity, Sohar is positioned to become an increasingly important hub for food and agricultural trade, serving both local markets and broader regional networks.
