Greenus Capital secures US$23M debt financing to boost Johnvents Industries’ cocoa expansion

Funding to strengthen Johnvents’ operations, expand cocoa production, and enhance participation in global value chains.

NIGERIA – Greenus Capital Limited has raised US$23 million in debt financing for Johnvents Industries Limited, supporting the agribusiness firm’s expansion and operational growth.

Olakunle Odeyemi, CEO of Greenus Capital, said the Africa-focused advisory firm remains committed to unlocking growth opportunities for high-potential, middle-market businesses across the continent.

He noted that the transaction reinforces Greenus Capital’s role as a leading provider of strategic advisory and capital solutions for mid-market corporations.

According to the statement, the funds will be deployed by Johnvents Industries to support capital expenditure and meet working capital needs, enabling the company to scale operations and strengthen its role in the agribusiness and industrial value chain.

Greenus Capital acted as financial adviser, originator, and arranger for the deal, which attracted funding from development finance institutions led by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).

Earlier this year, Johnvents secured a strategic partnership with British International Investment (BII) aimed at boosting cocoa production across Africa. The newly arranged debt financing further positions the group to advance its cocoa expansion efforts.

“For generations, cocoa has sustained families and industries across Nigeria. Yet, we have remained on the fringes of global value chains. With this investment, we are accelerating our journey to make Nigerian cocoa a symbol of quality, transparency, and global impact,” said John Alamu, Group Managing Director of Johnvents Group.

Johnvents is one of Nigeria’s largest cocoa processors, operating with an annual capacity of 18,000 MT and supplying premium products to markets across Africa, Europe, and beyond.

In 2024, the IFC invested US$23.3 million to help Johnvents expand processing operations and increase export capacity while improving the livelihoods of thousands of smallholder farmers.
