Kerry Group opens coffee extraction facility in Pennsylvania
USA – Food technology and ingredients company Kerry Group has opened its coffee extraction facility in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, marking its first manufacturing site in the US state.
The facility, first announced in September 2025, will develop natural coffee taste and flavour profiles. Kerry said the site will produce coffee solutions for applications ranging from ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages and alcoholic drinks to ice cream and savoury sauces.
The facility combines roasting, extraction, concentration, blending and packaging capabilities in one operation. It also features independent hot and cold brew extraction lines, which Kerry said will increase its coffee extraction capacity.
John Cahalane, President and CEO of Kerry North America, said the Bethlehem facility marks an important milestone for its coffee business.
“It brings additional capacity and advanced processing capabilities closer to customers on the East Coast, helping them respond quickly to changing consumer preferences across hot and cold coffee,” he said.
“Just as importantly, it gives us greater flexibility to develop high-quality coffee experiences while identifying opportunities to reduce supply chain complexity and environmental impact,” Cahalane added.
The facility opens as demand for premium coffee grows in the US. According to the National Coffee Association, 48% of American adults drank specialty coffee in the past day, compared with 39% who consumed traditional coffee, marking a record high.
Sustainable Coffee Ingredients
Kerry said the Bethlehem site will use natural, sustainably sourced ingredients aligned with USDA Organic, Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance and Café Femenino standards.
Its Beyond the Horizon commitment focuses on certified, ethical and sustainable sourcing and developing solutions that are “Better for People, Planet and Society.”
The Bethlehem facility expands Kerry’s coffee extraction footprint in the US while providing processing capabilities for customers across coffee beverage and food applications.
