Kopi Kenangan expands Indian footprint with second coffee outlet

Kopi Kenangan strengthens its India expansion strategy with a second store in Delhi, offering a blend of Indonesian and local flavors.

INDIA – Kopi Kenangan, Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing coffee chain and the region’s first food and beverage unicorn, has opened its second Indian outlet at SDA Market, New Delhi.

This follows the successful debut of its first store at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden, last month, marking an accelerated expansion into one of the world’s most dynamic café markets.

Founded in 2017, the Indonesia-based brand operates over 1,000 stores across Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, the Philippines, Australia, and India.

The latest launch underscores its ambition to strengthen its international footprint, with plans to open over 10 outlets in India by the end of 2025.

Backed by global investors including Peak XV, Sequoia Capital, Serena Ventures, and B Capital, Kopi Kenangan is introducing its signature Indonesian coffee experience to Indian consumers.

The company’s growing presence in the country aligns with India’s rapidly increasing coffee consumption, which is projected to exceed one million bags between 2023 and 2024.

This rise is attributed to growing disposable incomes, urban lifestyles, and the increasing popularity of café culture, particularly in metropolitan areas like New Delhi. In addition, evolving consumer preferences are driving demand for healthier, natural beverage alternatives.

Edward Tirtanata, Co-founder and Group CEO of Kenangan Brands, said, “After the overwhelming response at Pacific Mall, we are thrilled to open our second store in SDA Market, Delhi.  The Indian market has shown great enthusiasm for our unique offerings, and we are excited to continue building our presence here.”

The new SDA Market store offers a diverse menu of more than 35 food and beverage items. Combining Indonesian, Indian, and international influences, each item is crafted using fresh ingredients to create a culturally rich and high-quality coffee experience.

As part of its localization strategy, Kopi Kenangan sources select coffee varieties from Indian farmers to complement its Indonesian blends. This approach not only enhances its menu offerings but also supports India’s agricultural sector.

In addition to expanding its physical footprint, the company is also growing its local team. Kopi Kenangan plans to hire over 100 professionals across store operations, corporate roles, and sourcing functions in India by 2025.

Sanjay Mohta, Vice President and General Manager – India, said, “Our expansion in Delhi has been a resounding success. We are focused on blending Indonesian craftsmanship with local flavors to create a coffee experience that resonates with India’s diverse coffee culture.”
