LuLu Group to invest US$137M in three new Qatar hypermarkets

Retail expansion will add three stores as company strengthens presence in growing Qatari market

QATAR – LuLu Group International has announced plans to invest QR500 million (US$137 million) to open three new hypermarkets in Qatar, reinforcing its long-term expansion strategy in the Gulf state’s fast-growing retail sector.

The new outlets will be located at Baraha Town in Abu Hamour, Al Waab and Qetaifan Island. Construction and fit-out work are underway, with the stores expected to open within the next eight to ten months.

According to LuLu Group Chairman Yusuff Ali M.A., the company is also in advanced discussions on three additional retail projects, signalling continued expansion in the Qatari market.

LuLu currently operates 24 stores across Qatar. The announcement comes as the retailer celebrates reaching one million members in its Happiness Loyalty Programme, which offers customers discounts, reward points and personalised promotions.

Expansion supports growing retail demand

The investment aligns with continued growth in Qatar’s retail industry, supported by rising consumer spending, urban development, tourism recovery and population growth.

The new hypermarkets will offer a broad range of products, including fresh food, meat, poultry, and international groceries.

The Baraha Town outlet is planned as part of a mixed-use lifestyle development featuring residential, commercial and retail facilities.

Founded in the United Arab Emirates in 1974, LuLu Group operates more than 260 stores across the GCC and other international markets.

The company sources products from more than 85 countries and continues to expand its omnichannel retail operations.

The new investment is expected to create employment opportunities, strengthen local supply chains and increase retail capacity as Qatar’s consumer market continues to expand.
