Certification comes months after the completion of the US$2.07 billion Sadia Halal transaction in Saudi Arabia.

BRAZIL – Multi-protein food producer MBRF has received the Gold Seal under the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, the highest recognition awarded to organisations that meet the programme’s standards for transparent preparation and public disclosure of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions inventories.
The certification represents the company’s first environmental recognition since the merger of BRF and Marfrig in 2025, while continuing a record established by both companies, which had each previously earned Gold Seal recognition before combining their operations.
The Brazilian GHG Protocol Program, established in 2008 by FGVces and the World Resources Institute (WRI) together with Brazil’s Ministry of the Environment, the Brazilian Business Council for Sustainable Development (CEBDS), the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and founding companies, adapts international emissions accounting standards to Brazil’s regulatory and business environment.
MBRF said it prepares its greenhouse gas emissions inventory using the programme’s methodology and submits the data each year for independent third party verification before disclosure through the Public Emissions Registry.
The company said the recognition reflects its compliance with the programme’s transparency and reporting requirements for greenhouse gas emissions.
The award follows another major milestone for the company after Halal Products Development Company (HPDC), a subsidiary of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, and MBRF completed the financial closing of the Sadia Halal transaction earlier this year.
The deal, valued at approximately SAR8 billion (US$2.07 billion), created a larger halal food platform by transferring production facilities, logistics centres and distribution networks previously owned by MBRF.
The transferred operations cover Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait and Oman, while also supplying poultry, beef and processed halal products to markets across the Middle East and North Africa.
MBRF said the partnership is intended to support the development of a regional halal food business with broader international reach by combining its operational network with HPDC’s investment strategy for the halal sector.
Marquinhos Molina, chairman of Sadia Halal and chief executive officer of MBRF in Saudi Arabia, previously said the transaction advances the company’s long term regional growth plans through expanded production capacity and improved supply capabilities.
HPDC chief executive officer Fahad bin Suliman Alnuhait said the partnership reflects the scale of Saudi Arabia’s halal food industry and is expected to strengthen integrated production capabilities and market access across regional and international supply chains.
