MHP-backed group continues consolidation strategy in European market

SPAIN – Uvesa, the Spanish meat producer majority-owned by MHP, has reached an agreement to acquire local poultry business Payán Hermanos, according to a company statement released on Monday.
Although the companies confirmed the transaction, they did not disclose any financial details linked to the purchase.
The acquisition forms part of Uvesa’s ongoing efforts to expand its poultry operations within Spain, with the company stating the deal aligns with its plans to grow its presence in a sustainable manner.
Founded in 1953, Payán Hermanos operates from Maracena in southern Spain and supplies a range of poultry products primarily to domestic customers.
Uvesa president Antonio Sánchez described Payán as an established player in the sector, adding that integrating the business into Uvesa’s structure is expected to open up further development opportunities across operations.
The move follows a series of ownership changes involving MHP, which increased its stake in Uvesa to 92% in August last year after completing an earlier agreement to purchase a 41% stake in the company.
At the time of that transaction, Sánchez said the change in ownership would support Uvesa’s growth plans by drawing on MHP’s experience in operational processes and industry practices.
Against this backdrop, Sánchez indicated that the latest acquisition marks the next phase in Uvesa’s development following its acquisition by the MHP group.
He added that MHP’s strategy includes strengthening the performance of companies within its portfolio while focusing on their longer-term progress.
MHP, which is listed in London and ranks as the largest poultry producer in Ukraine, has been pursuing growth both domestically and in international markets, with Spain forming part of its wider European activities.
As a result, the addition of Payán Hermanos is expected to integrate into this broader approach, linking local production capabilities with MHP’s existing network.
