New Zealand Winegrowers appoints Anishka Jelicich as CEO

NEW ZEALAND – New Zealand Winegrowers (NZW) has appointed Anishka Jelicich as its new chief executive officer, bringing to the organisation more than two decades of experience across the wine and beverage industries in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Europe. 

The appointment comes as New Zealand’s wine sector seeks to strengthen its position in global markets while addressing a range of domestic and international challenges affecting producers and exporters. 

“We are very pleased to have Anishka join us as CEO. Her strategic perspective and ability to build alignment across stakeholders will be invaluable as we navigate both the opportunities and challenges ahead for our sector,” the organisation said. 

Jelicich succeeds former chief executive Philip Gregan and assumes the role at a time when demand for premium New Zealand wines continues to support the industry’s long-term growth ambitions. 

Commenting on her appointment, Jelicich highlighted the strong international reputation enjoyed by New Zealand wines and the industry’s contribution to the country’s economy. 

“Having spent much of my career working internationally in the global wine and drinks sector, I’ve had the privilege of seeing New Zealand wine through the eyes of the world,” she said. 

“Time and again I’ve seen the extraordinary respect our wines, our people and our industry command globally.” 

She also acknowledged the contributions made by Gregan, the NZW board, employees and industry stakeholders in building the sector’s success over many years. 

Looking ahead, Jelicich said her immediate focus would be on engaging with industry participants to better understand their priorities and challenges. 

“Today, New Zealand wine is the country’s eighth-largest export, generating approximately NZ$2.1 billion annually, with our distinctive, refreshing and sustainable wines enjoyed by consumers in more than 100 markets around the world,” she said. 

“My first priority is therefore to listen, learn and spend time with people across the industry, understanding what matters most before we write the next chapter together.” 

New Zealand Winegrowers said Jelicich’s leadership will help strengthen the industry’s position as it continues expanding its presence in key international markets.
