Nigerian Breweries, Guinness Nigeria announce price increases amid rising production costs

Nigerian Breweries and Guinness Nigeria plan price increases on select products as rising operational and input costs continue to pressure manufacturers in Nigeria’s beverage industry.

NIGERIA – Nigerian Breweries Plc and Guinness Nigeria Plc have announced plans to increase prices on selected products, citing rising operational and production costs in Nigeria.

In a notice issued to distributors, Nigerian Breweries Plc said the price adjustments are driven by prevailing economic conditions that have significantly increased the cost of doing business.

In a letter dated March 13, the company stated that the new prices will take effect from March 20, 2026, and will apply to selected stock keeping units (SKUs).

“As the country’s economic landscape continues to evolve, we want to inform you about an upcoming price adjustment,” the company said.

“Due to increases in operational and input costs, we will be implementing a price increase on select SKUs, effective Friday March 20, 2026.”

The brewer added that existing prices will be honoured for fully funded and confirmed orders placed in its system before the effective date.

Nigerian Breweries Plc produces several major alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including Star Lager, Gulder, Legend Extra Stout, Heineken, Goldberg, Life and Star Radler.

Similarly, Guinness Nigeria Plc announced a planned price increase in a separate notice dated March 14.

The company said the new pricing structure will take effect from March 27, 2026, and will apply to selected SKUs across product categories.

“Following the prevailing economic conditions which have impacted significantly on our cost of doing business, this is to inform you that we plan to take a price increase on selected SKUs across categories,” the notice stated.

Guinness Nigeria Plc also confirmed that fully funded orders placed before March 27 will be fulfilled at existing prices.

The planned adjustments come as manufacturers in Nigeria continue to face increasing costs related to raw materials, logistics, energy and foreign exchange.

According to previous industry data reported by Legit.ng, Nigeria’s major publicly listed brewing companies generated combined revenue of more than N1.54 trillion (US$1 billion) from beer and non-alcoholic beverages in the first nine months of 2025.

The data reflects the scale of consumer demand in the sector despite ongoing economic pressures affecting production and pricing structures.
