Normec strengthens laboratory capacity with acquisition of Silliker Netherlands

The company is expanding its capabilities in both microbiology and chemistry, two critical disciplines in ensuring food safety and environmental protection.

THE NETHERLANDS – Normec, an international provider of Testing, Inspection, Certification, and Compliance (TICC) services, has announced the acquisition of Silliker Netherlands B.V., a laboratory based in Ede that was formerly part of Mérieux NutriSciences.

The move strengthens Normec’s expertise in food safety and environmental testing, while further consolidating its position in the Dutch market.

The Ede laboratory is highly regarded for its specialization in Food Microbiology and Waste Water Chemistry testing.

By bringing this facility and its skilled team under the Normec umbrella, the company is expanding its capabilities in both microbiology and chemistry, two critical disciplines in ensuring food safety and environmental protection.

Commenting on the acquisition, Joep Bruins, CEO of Normec Group, said, “We are very pleased to welcome the Silliker Netherlands laboratory and its talented team to Normec. This acquisition not only strengthens our footprint in the Dutch market but also ensures continuity for customers and creates new opportunities for innovation and growth as part of the wider Normec network.”

For existing Ede laboratory clients, operations will continue as usual. Normec has confirmed that customers will retain their familiar points of contact, ensuring a seamless transition with no disruption in service quality.

To support this, Normec will work closely with Mérieux NutriSciences in the coming weeks to facilitate a smooth handover process.

Importantly, the transaction does not impact the other activities of Mérieux NutriSciences in the Netherlands.

The company will continue its work through Mérieux NutriSciences | KTBA, Mérieux NutriSciences | Blonk, and its Rotterdam-based high-end chemistry laboratory, which specializes in contaminants testing.

The acquisition of Silliker Netherlands reflects Normec’s wider growth strategy of strengthening laboratory capacity and expanding technical expertise to serve customers across diverse sectors.

With more than 6,000 professionals operating in a broad network of accredited laboratories and specialist centers across Europe and the United States, Normec offers independent, science-based solutions to help organizations safeguard quality, health, and sustainability.

By integrating the Ede laboratory into its network, Normec is not only reinforcing its food microbiology and environmental chemistry services but also signaling its commitment to long-term innovation and excellence in testing and compliance.
