Pepsi Kenya launches Sting energy drink to tap Kenya’s growing energy beverage market

Pepsi Kenya introduces Sting Energy with Red Rush and Gold Rush variants to capture Kenya’s expanding energy drink sector.

KENYA – Pepsi Kenya, through its bottling partner SBC Kenya, has launched Sting Energy, a premium energy drink aimed at Kenya’s rapidly growing base of ambitious consumers.

The launch marks Pepsi’s bold entry into the country’s expanding energy drink market, which recorded a 15 percent penetration increase between 2021 and 2024.

Sting Energy debuts with two variants: Red Rush (“Ignite Your Power”) and Gold Rush (“Elevate Your Energy”), both sold in 330ml bottles at a retail price of Kes 50 (US$0.39).

Distribution will span major supermarkets, convenience stores, and neighborhood kiosks across the country, targeting mass-market accessibility.

Globally, Sting Energy is gaining momentum after being named the Official Energy Drink of Formula 1 in May 2025, aligning the brand with one of the world’s fastest-growing sports.

Pepsi Kenya’s move comes as Kenya’s broader soft drinks market is projected to grow from US$1.68 billion in 2024 to US$2.61 billion by 2030, fueled by increasing demand for functional beverages that combine energy, taste, and lifestyle appeal.

Market data from Euromonitor places energy drinks among Kenya’s best-performing beverage segments in 2024, driven by urban lifestyles and demand for on-the-go refreshment. Industry analysts note that despite rapid growth, gaps remain in affordability, consistency, and global brand presence.

Sting Energy aims to fill those gaps with premium packaging, bold flavors, and international credibility offered at a mass-market price point.

“With Sting Energy, we are igniting a movement,” said Baker Muganda, CEO of Pepsi Kenya. “Our vision is to give Kenyans an energy drink that fuels ambition, connects them to global passion like Formula 1, and empowers them to push their limits every day.”

John K’Otieno, Country Manager of SBC Kenya, added, “Sting Energy is built for go-getters, students burning the midnight oil, athletes chasing excellence, and professionals pushing boundaries. Red Rush and Gold Rush deliver energy with edge, confidence, and global pride.”

Already available in over 30 international markets, Sting Energy is positioned as both a lifestyle and functional brand.

The launch follows Pepsi’s recent partnership with regional airline Skyward Express, which now serves Pepsi beverages complimentary on flights to 11 domestic destinations, signaling Pepsi’s intensified push in Kenya’s competitive soft drinks market.
