QMP expands meat, poultry distribution in the Democratic Republic of Congo

Kenyan meat processor begins product rollout in partnership with Kin Marché

DRC – Quality Meat Packers (QMP), a Kenyan-based meat processing company, is introducing its full range of meat, poultry, and processed products to the Democratic Republic of Congo through a partnership with retailer Kin Marché.

The rollout begins in Kivu, where Kin Marché shoppers now have access to QMP’s Halal-certified products, with the company stating it will extend availability to Kinshasa, Katanga, and other areas in the coming months.

QMP said the expansion is made possible through the Kin Marché retail team’s distribution efforts, which have allowed the brand to establish a presence in a new central African market.

Founded in 1970 as a family business, QMP operates what it describes as Kenya’s largest slaughterhouse and meat processing plant, with operations designed to manage every stage from livestock sourcing to retail delivery.

The company sources its prime beef from Kenyan ranches, lamb from the Molo Highlands, and goats from the country’s northeastern region, while chicken is supplied under its “The Excellent Chicken” brand.

Its portfolio also includes ready-to-cook and ready-to-eat convenience foods such as sausages, hamburgers, samosas, and breaded snacks, all marketed as Halal-compliant.

QMP said its production facilities are certified under the Food Safety System Certification 22000 (FSSC 22000), which incorporates ISO 22000:2018 and related standards, and have export approval from the Kenyan government as well as regulatory clearance from several Middle Eastern and African countries.

According to the company, all products are processed in compliance with Halal regulations, with no pork, donkey, or game meat in its supply chain.

The firm maintains a vertically integrated operation, including its own harvesting program, manufacturing processes, and a dedicated cold chain delivery network using refrigerated trucks to ensure product freshness.

QMP views entry into the DRC as part of its broader regional growth plan, which has seen the brand target multiple African and Middle Eastern markets in recent years.

Kin Marché has not disclosed the projected sales volumes or financial terms of the agreement, but the collaboration is expected to give QMP direct retail access to DRC consumers through established supermarket outlets.

The company’s management said it anticipates additional market entries in the near future, citing demand for Halal meat products in urban and peri-urban areas across Africa.
