Sidel launches CoboREEL, an automated reel loading solution featuring industry-leading 18-reel capacity to boost packaging productivity.

FRANCE – Sidel has introduced CoboREEL, a next-generation automated reel loading solution for beverage labelling systems, setting a new benchmark in the packaging industry with its unmatched 18-reel capacity.
The innovation is aimed at improving efficiency, productivity, and operational flexibility across beverage packaging lines.
The CoboREEL solution integrates collaborative robots (cobots) to automate the reel loading process, eliminating the need for manual intervention or reel replacement throughout an entire shift.
Sidel states that the system ensures 100% accuracy, significantly reducing downtime while boosting both efficiency and profitability.
“With an unmatched reel autonomy of up to 18 reels, Sidel’s CoboREEL sets a new standard in the industry,” said Antonio Mancino, product manager – labelling at Sidel. “Our customers are looking for ways to work smarter, with fewer resources and in a more efficient and intelligent way.”
The system allows for autonomous operation by feeding all required reels at the beginning of the shift. Once loaded, operators are freed from repetitive tasks, enabling them to focus on more value-added operations.
Additionally, CoboREEL can handle multiple label types and designs without requiring manual changes, further streamlining the production process.
Designed as a mobile and modular unit, CoboREEL operates as a standalone solution that can be easily moved and deployed across various labelling machines.
This interchangeability enhances flexibility for beverage producers managing multiple packaging formats or production lines.
The launch comes in the wake of growing demand in the global beverage sector. Sidel cited Global Data projections showing that the packaged water segment is expected to increase by 3.5% to over 350 billion litres by 2029.
Key drivers include water scarcity, rising tourism, and increased on-the-go consumption, despite stricter regulations on single-use plastics.
Meanwhile, carbonate volumes are also projected to grow by 2.2% over the same period, with health and sustainability trends influencing product innovation.
Sidel, leveraging over five decades of packaging expertise, positions CoboREEL as a critical tool for beverage manufacturers seeking scalable automation.
“This innovation reflects our commitment to developing user-friendly solutions that reduce costs, speed up operations, and minimise training needs,” Mancino added. “As the beverage market evolves, we will continue to deliver cutting-edge technologies that meet changing industry demands.”
CoboREEL is now available for global deployment in beverage production facilities.
