Al Ain Farms Group to cut added sugar by up to 20% across UAE dairy and beverage brands

The UAE food manufacturer will reformulate key dairy and beverage products in partnership with Abu Dhabi health authorities to support healthier consumer choices.

UAE – Al Ain Farms Group (AAFG), one of the United Arab Emirates’ largest food and beverage manufacturers, has announced plans to reduce added sugar by 10–20% across its brands, including Al Ain Farms and Marmum Dairy, as part of a major public health reformulation initiative.

The move aligns with Abu Dhabi’s Healthy Living Strategy, a multi-sector programme aimed at encouraging healthier dietary habits through coordinated action between government and private sector stakeholders.

The initiative is among 28 strategic programmes designed to improve the nutritional profile of widely consumed foods and beverages while maintaining taste, quality and consumer trust.

AAFG said the commitment was developed in collaboration with Healthy Living and the Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC), reflecting a broader push to advance healthier food systems in the UAE through public-private cooperation.

Dr Ahmed AlKhazraji, Executive Director of Healthy Living, said the initiative is designed to make nutritious food more accessible to the public.

“We want to ensure that healthy, nutritious food is within everyone’s reach – because eating well should be easy for all,” he said. “Improving everyday food is one of the most effective ways to support healthier living at scale.”

He added: “Through this reformulation commitment, Al Ain Farms Group is demonstrating real leadership, showing how local food manufacturers can play a meaningful role in strengthening healthy food infrastructure while preserving choice and quality.”

“This is the kind of system-level action that advances our mission of building a healthier Abu Dhabi. By setting a practical and achievable benchmark, Al Ain Farms Group is helping pave the way for others across the food sector to follow, so that healthier options become widely available and the healthy choice becomes the easy choice for everyone.”

Eng Abdulla Hassan Al Muaini, Executive Director of the Central Testing Laboratory at QCC, said the organisation supports industry reformulation efforts aimed at improving public health outcomes.

“We welcome AAFG’s commitment to reformulation and continuous improvement. This aligns with our shared goal of ensuring that consumers can make informed choices without compromising on quality or taste,” he said.

Hassan Safi, Group CEO of AAFG, said the initiative reflects a long-term commitment to improving product nutrition across the company’s portfolio.

“We’re focused on combining new product innovation with progressive reformulation across our existing portfolio to make healthier choices more accessible, without compromising on taste and quality,” Safi added.

AAFG also highlighted previous work on sugar reduction, including its no-added-sugar beverage innovations. The group said it is continuing to expand healthier offerings across its portfolio.

The company launched a new healthy product range in April 2026, with further reformulation planned for flavoured milk, yoghurt and laban products under Al Ain Farms and Marmum Dairy.

The updated products are expected to reach consumers ahead of the Back-to-School season in September 2026.
