Pernod Ricard Nigeria strengthens partnership with NAFDAC to combat counterfeit alcohol products

Pernod Ricard Nigeria and NAFDAC have reaffirmed their commitment to consumer protection, responsible business practices and stronger collaboration against counterfeit products.

NIGERIA – Pernod Ricard Nigeria has reaffirmed its commitment to consumer protection and combating counterfeit alcohol products through strengthened collaboration with the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The renewed commitment was highlighted during a courtesy visit by Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s senior management team to NAFDAC’s Lagos office, where both organisations explored ways to enhance cooperation in safeguarding product integrity, promoting responsible business practices and supporting sustainable growth within Nigeria’s beverage industry.

Speaking during the visit, Pernod Ricard Nigeria’s Operations Director, Bode Omosagba, underscored the company’s support for NAFDAC’s regulatory mandate and its efforts to protect consumers.

According to Omosagba, the company recognises the critical role played by NAFDAC in safeguarding public health, maintaining product quality standards and creating an enabling environment for business development.

He added that Pernod Ricard Nigeria remains committed to working closely with the agency to advance consumer safety and tackle the growing challenge of counterfeit products in the marketplace.

Omosagba also highlighted the company’s sustainability initiatives, including the Glass to Life campaign, which promotes the collection and recycling of used glass bottles to support environmental sustainability.

He further referenced Pernod Ricard’s global responsible drinking campaign, Drink More Water, which encourages moderation and responsible alcohol consumption.

Pernod Ricard Nigeria markets a portfolio of premium beverage brands, including the locally produced Imperial Blue, alongside international labels such as Martell Cognac, Jameson Irish Whiskey, Absolut Vodka, The Glenlivet Scotch Whisky and Chivas Regal Whisky.

NAFDAC’s Director of Port Inspection Directorate, Olakunle Olaniran, commended the company for its commitment to regulatory compliance and responsible corporate conduct.

He reaffirmed the agency’s dedication to protecting public health while facilitating trade, investment and economic growth, stressing that closer collaboration between regulators and industry stakeholders is essential to curb counterfeiting and strengthen consumer confidence.

Dr. Olaniran also advocated increased local manufacturing and technology transfer, describing both as key drivers of Nigeria’s industrialisation and economic development.

Meanwhile, NAFDAC has launched its nationwide “Read the Food Label” campaign to encourage Nigerians to make reading food labels a daily habit and help reduce diet-related non-communicable diseases.

Director-General Mojisola Adeyeye described food labels as essential public health tools, stressing that reading them should become a shared responsibility for everyone purchasing packaged foods.
