APEDA facilitates Amrapali mango export from Jharkhand to Dubai, boosting farmer returns

This strategic partnership bridges the gap between rural producers and premium overseas consumers, enabling farmers to access higher-value markets.

INDIA – APEDA has facilitated the commercial export of Amrapali mangoes from Jharkhand to Dubai, a successful initiative that has significantly boosted economic returns for women-led farmer collectives, delivering returns nearly 180% higher than prevailing local market prices.

The consignment was ceremonially flagged off in the presence of the Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Development Commissioner of the respective districts, along with representatives of APEDA, JSLPS, and other line departments.

The flag-off symbolized successful collaboration among APEDA, the Government of Jharkhand, district administrations, women-led Farmer Producer Companies, exporters, and development partners to connect rural producers with international markets.

Members of the women-led FPCs realized nearly 180% higher returns than prevailing local market prices, demonstrating the potential of export market access to enhance farmers’ incomes and to encourage greater participation by women producers in export-oriented agriculture.

Furthermore, each participating FPC has more than 1,500 shareholders and, collectively, represents over 50,000 member farmers, extending the initiative’s benefits to a large farming community.

In addition, the initiative showcases the region’s horticultural sector’s expanding export potential while promoting gender-inclusive agricultural trade. This strategic partnership bridges the gap between rural producers and premium overseas consumers, enabling farmers to access higher-value markets.

Capacity-building programmes were crucial in meeting international quality standards. In May 2026, APEDA organized a dedicated capacity-building programme in the Palkot area of Gumla district to sensitize members and the Board of Directors of eight Farmer Producer Companies to international quality standards, post-harvest handling practices, and export procedures, enabling them to meet the requirements of premium overseas markets.

The session focused on raising awareness of APEDA’s mandate, the Financial Assistance Scheme, export opportunities, key export procedures, and the institutional support available to women entrepreneurs for participation in global agricultural trade.

The initiative highlights the growing export potential of Jharkhand’s horticulture sector and reflects APEDA’s continued efforts to strengthen women-led farmer collectives through capacity building, market linkages, and export facilitation.

Finally, by providing specialized training and capacity-building workshops, APEDA has prepared more than 50,000 farmers to meet rigorous global quality standards and has empowered female entrepreneurs and self-help groups through institutional support and market access.
