Egypt exports 216,000 tons of food in weekly trade, citrus and grapes lead shipments

EGYPT – Egypt demonstrated robust international trade presence during the final week of June 2026, exporting approximately 216,000 tons of food products to nearly 200 global markets while processing significant inbound supplies to meet domestic needs, with citrus and grapes leading fruit shipments.

Fruit exports totalled 53,000 tons across 40 varieties in the week of June 20-26. Citrus fruits accounted for the largest share at 23,000 tons, followed by grapes at 14,000 tons and strawberries at 12,000 tons.

On the other hand, vegetable exports reached 45,000 tons, comprising 42 varieties. Onions led the category with 12,000 tons, followed by potatoes at 7,000 tons and sweet potatoes at 6,000 tons. The export surge was managed by 1,484 specialized companies covering approximately 760 food product categories.

Furthermore, Egyptian food products reached 191 countries during the reporting period. The United States, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, and the United Arab Emirates were the leading destinations.

This broad geographic distribution highlights the scale of Egypt’s agricultural logistics and its vital role in the global food supply chain. The diversity of export offerings demonstrates Egypt’s capacity to supply multiple product categories to diverse international markets simultaneously.

On the import side, the National Food Safety Authority reported the arrival of 2,002 food consignments weighing a combined 275,000 tons, received by 868 importing companies. This inbound volume exceeded exports by 59,000 tons, reflecting Egypt’s need to supplement domestic production with imported food supplies.

Despite this tonnage deficit, Egypt’s export performance demonstrates strong agricultural production capacity and established international trade relationships.

The weekly data highlights Egypt’s balanced approach to food trade, maintaining significant export volumes while ensuring sufficient imports to meet domestic consumption.

Moreover, the country’s food products reached 191 global markets via 4,500 consignments, highlighting the logistical sophistication of Egypt’s agricultural export sector.

The National Food Safety Authority’s 23rd weekly report confirms Egypt’s position as a major player in international food trade, capable of supplying a diverse range of products to markets across multiple continents.

As a result, this robust trade performance reinforces Egypt’s strategic importance in global agricultural supply chains.
