The new flavour systems support beverages, dairy and bakery applications while simplifying formulation for manufacturers targeting the fast-growing dirty soda trend.

USA – US flavour house OSF Flavors has introduced a new range of flavour solutions inspired by the rapidly growing “dirty soda” trend, enabling beverage manufacturers to develop products that capture increasing consumer demand for customised soft drinks.
The new portfolio features classic American soda fountain-inspired flavours, including cherry cola, vanilla cola and root beer float. According to the company, the flavour systems are designed to recreate the distinctive taste and visual appeal that have made dirty sodas popular across multiple consumer groups.
OSF said dirty sodas, which combine carbonated soft drinks with flavoured syrups, creamy ingredients and lime, appeal to both younger consumers aged 18 to 30 and older generations familiar with traditional soda fountain beverages.
The company highlighted the versatility of the new flavour line, noting that it can be incorporated into soda fountain applications as well as ready-to-drink (RTD) beverages, creamers, frozen dairy floats, bakery fillings and frostings. This allows beverage, dairy and bakery manufacturers to utilise a single flavour system across multiple product categories without requiring reformulation.
Pierre Battu, Managing Director of Asia for OSF Flavors, said creating authentic dirty soda products presents several formulation challenges.
“It is a system: a base soda, a citrus or fruit lift, a dairy or dairy free cream note, and a textural and visual payoff of layered colour and a swirling, ice cream float mouthfeel,” Battu explained.
He added, “If you reproduce only the taste, you get a flat cream soda. Miss the acid and carbonation balance and the dairy curdles. Ignore the visual and you lose the entire reason the drink travels on social platforms in the first place, because the layered look is the marketing.”
OSF said the new flavour solutions are intended to simplify product development while supporting growing demand for natural and organic ingredients as clean-label products continue to gain importance.
The launch follows similar developments in the beverage flavour industry. UK flavour house I.T.S recently introduced a range of natural creamy flavours for carbonated beverages, while new product launches have included cream soda, strawberries and cream, and ice cream-inspired cola flavours.
The latest range also builds on OSF’s recent flavour innovations inspired by viral food trends, including Dubai chocolate, Angel Hair chocolate and Miso Caramel Latte flavour solutions.
