Egyptian agricultural exports surpass 5.8 million tonnes as citrus, potatoes lead growth
The report confirms growing global demand for Egyptian produce and reflects the country’s success in developing the agricultural sector and enhancing its competitiveness on the international stage.
EGYPT – Egypt’s agricultural sector has seen a monumental surge in international trade, with total exports exceeding 5.8 million tonnes this year, driven by strong global demand and improved quality control measures.
According to an official report from the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine, citrus fruits continued to lead exports, with quantities exceeding 2.2 million tons, while fresh potatoes came second, with quantities exceeding 908,000 tons.
Sweet potatoes reached approximately 218,000 tons, grapes exceeded 147,000 tons, and fresh and dried beans reached approximately 125,000 tons. Fresh onions exceeded 123,000 tons, fresh strawberries surpassed 39,000 tons, fresh garlic reached approximately 34,000 tons, and fresh tomatoes hit 20,000 tons.
In addition, significant quantities of guava and pomegranate were also exported, ranking among Egypt’s most important agricultural exports.
The expansion is attributed to enhanced quality control measures and a robust monitoring system that meets rigorous global safety standards. Egypt’s monitoring and tracking system ensures that produce meets international safety and quality standards through rigorous inspection protocols, pest control measures, and compliance with importing countries’ phytosanitary requirements.
Minister Alaa Farouk emphasized that the government is actively targeting new global markets to further diversify Egypt’s economic reach across different continents, aiming to penetrate promising markets with stringent quarantine requirements and expand Egypt’s export map.
